Calcite is a relatively soft mineral, measuring approximately 3 on the Mohs hardness scale, and it has prominent cleavage. It can therefore be scratched or damaged more easily than many of the crystals in your collection. Calcite also reacts readily with acids, including weak acids such as vinegar.
Handle this specimen carefully and avoid dropping or knocking it.
Hold from the matrix/base where possible, rather than gripping the crystal points.
Do not place heavy objects on top of the specimen.
Dust gently with a soft, dry brush or cloth.
Avoid abrasive cloths, brushes and cleaning products.
Avoid vinegar, acids and acidic cleaning products.
Avoid harsh chemicals.
Avoid ultrasonic or steam cleaning.
Keep away from harder crystals that could scratch the Calcite.
Display somewhere stable where the specimen cannot easily be knocked over.
Avoid repeatedly moving the specimen unnecessarily, as the delicate crystal points can be vulnerable to damage.
Please Note
This listing is for the exact Dogtooth Calcite Cluster shown in the photographs.
Natural mineral specimens can contain variations in crystal formation, translucency, colour, matrix, inclusions, textures and natural markings. These characteristics are part of the geological history and individual character of the specimen.
Some crystal points may have naturally occurring imperfections or minor damage from formation, extraction or handling.
Please take particular care when moving and displaying this specimen, as the pointed Calcite crystals can be delicate.
Colours may vary slightly due to different screen resolutions, monitor settings and lighting conditions.
