Labradorite: A Beginner's Guide to This Mesmerising Crystal
Hello Sunflowers,
If you asked me to choose just one crystal that I could never stop collecting, it would probably be Labradorite.
Anyone who knows me knows I have a bit of a Labradorite obsession! I've completely lost count of how many pieces I own, and every time I think my collection is complete, another one catches my eye.
That's one of the things I love most about Labradorite. No two pieces are ever exactly the same. Each one has its own unique flash of colour, making every piece feel truly one of a kind.
What is Labradorite?
Labradorite is a beautiful feldspar mineral best known for its incredible flashes of colour, known as labradorescence.
At first glance, Labradorite can appear grey or dark in colour. But as you move it in the light, brilliant flashes of blue, green, gold, orange, and sometimes even purple seem to appear from within the stone.
It's easy to see why Labradorite has become one of the world's most popular crystals.
Labradorite Folklore
One of the most beautiful stories about Labradorite comes from Inuit folklore.
Legend says that long ago, the Northern Lights became trapped within the rocks along the coast of Labrador in Canada. An Inuit warrior discovered the glowing stones and struck them with his spear, releasing the lights back into the night sky. Not all of the light escaped, however, leaving shimmering flashes of blue, green, and gold forever captured inside Labradorite.
Whether you see it as a beautiful legend or simply enjoy the story, it's easy to understand why Labradorite has fascinated people for generations. Every time the light catches a piece, it almost feels as though a little of the Northern Lights is shining back.
Traditional Labradorite Meanings
In crystal traditions, Labradorite is commonly associated with:
Protection
Transformation
Intuition
Personal growth
Many people are drawn to Labradorite during times of change or when stepping outside their comfort zone. As with all crystal meanings, these associations are based on traditional beliefs and personal experiences rather than scientific evidence.
Why I Love Labradorite
Labradorite has always been one of my favourite crystals, and it's probably the one I collect the most.
Some pieces flash bright electric blue, while others reveal stunning greens, golds, oranges, or a combination of colours. Every piece feels unique, and I still find myself picking one up just to watch the colours dance in the light.
For me, that's what makes Labradorite so special. No matter how many pieces I own, each one still feels like a new discovery.
How to Use Labradorite
There are plenty of ways to enjoy Labradorite.
Many people like to:
Carry a Labradorite tumble stone in their pocket or handbag.
Place it on their desk or bedside table.
Display a Labradorite freeform, sphere, or tower in their home.
Wear Labradorite jewellery every day.
There isn't a right or wrong way to use Labradorite. The best place for it is wherever you'll enjoy seeing it most.
