Most Black Obsidian has a glossy black appearance, although some pieces can display subtle silver or golden sheens when viewed in the light.

Black Obsidian has been used by people for thousands of years.
Because it fractures into incredibly sharp edges, ancient cultures crafted it into knives, spear points, arrowheads, and cutting tools. Archaeologists have found Obsidian artefacts dating back thousands of years, showing just how highly prized it was.
It was also used to create mirrors. The Aztecs famously polished large pieces of Black Obsidian into reflective surfaces, and the stone became associated with the god Tezcatlipoca, whose name is often translated as "Smoking Mirror." These mirrors were used in ceremonies and held deep cultural significance.
