Cleansing your Crystals

Hello, Sunflowers! 🌻

When was the last time you cleansed your crystals?

If your answer is "never" because you're not quite sure how, don't worry, you're not alone.

One of the questions I hear most often is: "What's the best way to cleanse crystals?" The truth is, there isn't a single right answer.

Your crystal journey is unique, and what works for one person may not resonate with another. Today, I'd like to share the cleansing methods I use personally, along with a few other popular techniques you might like to try.

How I Cleanse My Crystals

When I first started collecting crystals, my favourite cleansing method was placing them under the full moon or new moon. As my collection grew, however, I found I no longer had the space or time to cleanse every crystal that way, so my routine evolved.

🌻 Welcoming New Crystals

Whenever a new crystal joins my collection, I place it on a windowsill for around 24 hours so it can enjoy both daylight and moonlight before finding its place in my home.

🌻 Satin Spar Bowls

All of my wearable crystals rest in a Satin Spar bowl when they're not being worn.

My pendulums also have their own dedicated Satin Spar bowl where they can rest and recharge between sessions.

🌻 Sound Cleansing

Every evening before bed, I use a singing bowl to cleanse the room and the crystals I sleep with.

Most of my crystal collection is displayed throughout my bedroom, so they also benefit from the vibrations of the singing bowl.

🌻 Incense Cleansing

When I feel my crystals need a little extra attention, I use incense.

My personal favourite is Moldavite incense. If incense isn't practical, sound cleansing can be a wonderful alternative. There are plenty of crystal sound bath playlists available online that can be used as part of your cleansing routine.

Other Popular Crystal Cleansing Methods

🌻 Sunlight

Sunlight is a popular cleansing method.

Some crystals, such as Amethyst, may fade after prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. A brief cleansing session is unlikely to cause significant fading, but it's still worth being mindful of.

Crystals can also become quite warm during hotter weather, so keep an eye on them.

🌻 Salt

Some people place crystals on a bed of salt to help absorb unwanted energy.

Be aware that salt can scratch or damage certain crystals, so it's worth researching your crystal beforehand.

🌻 Cleansing with Other Crystals

Certain crystals are believed to help cleanse the energy of surrounding crystals.

This is why I store many of my wearables and pendulums in Satin Spar bowls. I also keep pieces of Satin Spar and Selenite throughout my crystal displays.

Other crystals commonly used for cleansing include:

  • Carnelian

  • Blue Kyanite

  • Clear Quartz

Some people believe the crystals must physically touch, while others feel they simply need to be nearby. I personally believe they do not need to be touching to be effective.

🌻 Running Water

Running water is another popular cleansing method.

This could be a stream, the ocean, or even your household tap.

If you choose this method, I recommend using a mesh bag or holding smaller crystals carefully to avoid accidentally losing them. Always check whether your crystal is water-safe before using this technique, as some minerals can be damaged by water.

Final Thoughts

There are many ways to cleanse your crystals, and the best method is ultimately the one that feels right to you.

Whether you prefer moonlight, sound, Satin Spar, incense, water, or another method entirely, trust your intuition and enjoy discovering what works best for your own crystal practice.
