10 Crystal Myths Debunked

Hello Sunflowers,

There are so many myths surrounding crystals that it can be hard to know what's true, especially when you're just starting your crystal journey. Today I thought it would be fun to bust some of the most common crystal myths and share a little about my own crystal journey along the way.

Myth 1: The Most Expensive Crystal Is the Best

Definitely not! Some of the most loved crystals, such as Amethyst, Rose Quartz, and Clear Quartz, are also some of the most affordable.

The best crystal isn't the most expensive one. It's the one that you connect with.

Myth 2: Every Crystal Can Go in Water

Not all crystals are water safe. While many quartz-based crystals are generally fine with water, others such as Satin Spar, Halite, Malachite, and Pyrite can become damaged or should be kept dry.

When in doubt, always check first.

Myth 3: Every Crystal Is Safe in the Sun

Just like water, some crystals don't enjoy long periods of direct sunlight. Certain crystals can fade over time, so it's always worth doing a little research before leaving them outside.

Myth 4: You Can Only Own One of Each Crystal

If that were true, I'd be in trouble!

Labradorite is my weakness, and I've completely lost count of how many pieces I own. Every single one has a different flash, different colours, and its own unique personality. That's part of what makes collecting crystals so much fun.

Myth 5: You Must Cleanse Your Crystals Every Day

There isn't a rulebook for cleansing crystals.

Personally, I like to cleanse my wearable crystals after every use by placing them in a Satin Spar bowl. It's become part of my routine, but that's simply what works for me. Everyone's crystal journey is different, so find the routine that feels right for you.

Myth 6: Crystals Work Instantly

Everyone's experience with crystals is different. Some people feel an immediate connection, while for others it's simply about setting intentions, mindfulness, or appreciating their natural beauty.

Myth 7: You Have to Be Spiritual to Enjoy Crystals

Not at all.

Some people collect crystals because they enjoy their traditional meanings, while others simply love their colours, patterns, and the incredible way nature creates them. There isn't a right or wrong reason to enjoy crystals.

Myth 8: You Can't Wear Different Crystals Together

This is one I definitely don't follow!

Most days you'll find me wearing Satin Spar, Moonstone, Moldavite, Rhodonite, and Black Agate together. Those are the crystals I naturally reach for, and I love wearing them them for different reasons.

Wear the crystals that make you happy. There are no crystal police coming to check your wrists!

Myth 9: Bigger Crystals Have More Power

A crystal doesn't become more meaningful just because it's bigger.

Some of my favourite crystals are tiny tumbles that fit perfectly in my pocket, while others are beautiful statement pieces displayed around my home. It's not about the size, it's about what the crystal means to you.

Myth 10: There's a Right or Wrong Way to Enjoy Crystals

This is probably the biggest myth of all.

Whether you collect crystals for their beauty, their traditional meanings, meditation, mindfulness, or simply because they make you smile, your crystal journey is your own.

There are no exams, no rules, and no perfect collection. Just enjoy learning, collecting, and surrounding yourself with crystals that you love.
